This specimen is a skull prepared as a teaching tool for medical students. The calvarium is cut, and includes a hinged attachment allowing for a closer examination of the internal structures of the skull. The mandible has a removable spring attachment. Most of the teeth are present, and there is a putty around the alveolar process of the maxilla, likely from a previously attempted repair, or a simulation for the gums. There are a few, small button osteomas on the frontal bone, a relatively common benign bone growth. This skull had a lacquer applied which has discolored over time, giving it a unique glossy orange patina. Responsibly sourced, beautifully preserved, and thoughtfully selected, this skull is the perfect tool for medical students, working professionals, and individuals interested in learning about osteology.
